情態動詞(I)
had better,should,ought to
1.had better
had better的意思是最好,后面接動詞原形,表示說話人希望對方做什么。had better not則表示說話人希望對方最好不要做什么。
e.g.You had better see a doctor.
你最好找大夫看看。
You had better not go home now.
你現在最好不要回家。
2.should
should通常表示勸告,建議,意思是應該。
e.g.You should keep your promise.
你應該履行諾言。
You should invite him to the party.
你應該邀請他參加舞會。
3.ought to
(1)ought to常用來表示因為有責任、義務,而應該做某事,通常與should意思相近。
e.g.The students ought to obey the school rules.
學生們應遵守校規。
Oughtn't we to give him a chance to try?
我們難道不應該給他一個嘗試的機會嗎?
(2)ought to也常用來表示勸告或建議,意思是應當,宜于。
e.g.There ought to be more buses during the rush hours.
在上下班乘客擁擠的時刻,公共汽車應當多一點。
(3)ought to還可表示猜測,意思是理應,總應該。
e.g.If he started at seven,he ought to be here now.
要是他七點鐘出發,這會兒總應該到了。

must,have to,have got to
1. must
(1)表示必須,應當,非不可。否定式是must not或mustn't,表示強烈的禁止,意思是不得,不準。
e.g.You must tell your reason.
你必須講出你的理由。
You mustn't speak like that to your mother.
你不準像那樣對你的媽媽講話。
(2)在回答帶有must的問句時,否定式常用needn't,表示不必,語氣比較委婉。
e.g.-Must I do it?
-我必須做這件事嗎?
-Yes,you must.
No,you needn't.
一是的,你非做不可。
不,你不必做它。
(3)表示說話人對某事的猜測,意思是一定,準是,只用于肯定句中。
e.g.You must be tired after the long walk.走了遠路,你一定很累了。
2.have to,have got to
以上兩詞,都表示必須,不得不,在這個意義上與must很相近,但must表示的是說話人的主觀看法,而have,have got to則表示客觀的需要,而且還有更多的時態形式。
e.g.I have to / have got to go now.
我現在得走了。
Then you will have to/ have got to go back at once.
即你得立刻回去。
He had to / had got to work day and night in the old days.
他在舊社會不得不日夜干活。
