　　You must look after yourself and keep healthy.

　　你必須照顧自己并保持身體健康。（連接兩個(gè)并列謂語(yǔ)）

　　They teach us Chinese and we teach them English.

　　他們教我們漢語(yǔ)，我們教他們英語(yǔ)。（連接兩個(gè)簡(jiǎn)單句）

　　如果連接兩個(gè)以上的詞語(yǔ)，通常把a(bǔ)nd放在最后一個(gè)詞語(yǔ)前面；為了強(qiáng)調(diào)，可在兩者之間分別加上and；把詞語(yǔ)連接起來(lái)時(shí)，通常把較短的詞語(yǔ)放在前面。

　　I like eggs，meat，rice，bread and milk.

　　我喜歡雞蛋、肉、米飯、面包和牛奶。

　　All that afternoon I jumped and sang and did all kinds of things.

　　那天整個(gè)下午我又唱又跳，做各種各樣的事情。

　　The apples are big and delicious.

　　那些蘋(píng)果又大又好吃。

　　（2）表示目的。在口語(yǔ)中，and常用在go，come，try等動(dòng)詞后連接另一個(gè)動(dòng)詞，表示目的。此時(shí)and相當(dāng)于 to，不必譯出。

　　Come and meet the family.

　　來(lái)見(jiàn)見(jiàn)這家人。

　　（3）表示條件和結(jié)果。在祈使句后，常用and連接一個(gè)簡(jiǎn)單句，表示條件與結(jié)果的關(guān)系，它們?cè)谡Z(yǔ)法上是并列關(guān)系，但在意義上卻是主從關(guān)系，也可譯為“如果……就……”。

　　Work hard and you will live happily.＝If you work hard，you will live happily.

　　如果你努力工作，你就會(huì)活得愉快。

　　（4）表示承接關(guān)系。and用在句首，起承上啟下的作用，可譯為“因此”“那么”“于是”等，也可不譯。

　　（5）表示動(dòng)詞的先后關(guān)系。and常用來(lái)連接兩個(gè)動(dòng)詞或動(dòng)詞詞組，后一個(gè)動(dòng)詞所表示的動(dòng)作發(fā)生得遲一點(diǎn)。此時(shí)and相當(dāng)于then, 可譯為“然后”。Then he got out of the lift and climbed up to the fifteenth floor on foot.

　　于是他從電梯里走出來(lái)，然后步行爬上第15層樓。

　　（6）表示動(dòng)作上的伴隨關(guān)系。and連接兩個(gè)動(dòng)詞，動(dòng)作同時(shí)發(fā)生，前一個(gè)動(dòng)詞表示姿勢(shì)或狀態(tài)，后一個(gè)動(dòng)詞表示伴隨動(dòng)作，此時(shí)and 相當(dāng)于while，可譯為“邊……邊……”。

　　They talked and laughed happily.

　　他們愉快地邊談邊笑。

　　（7）表示因果關(guān)系。and連接兩個(gè)動(dòng)詞或兩個(gè)分句，帶有因果關(guān)系，此時(shí)and相當(dāng)于so，可譯為“便”“于是”“因而” “結(jié)果”等。

　　She couldn't find her mother and began to cry.

　　她找不到媽媽?zhuān)谑强蘖似饋?lái)。

　　（8）表示意義上的增補(bǔ)。and連接兩個(gè)分句，第二個(gè)分句是第一個(gè)分句的補(bǔ)充或進(jìn)一步說(shuō)明，可譯為“又”“同時(shí)”等。

　　Don't be late—and put on your old clothes.

　　別遲到——還要穿上你的舊衣服。

　　（9）表示遞進(jìn)與轉(zhuǎn)折。and表示轉(zhuǎn)折時(shí)，相當(dāng)于but，但語(yǔ)氣較弱，可譯為“而且”“可是”“不過(guò)” 或不譯。

　　I mean you eat too much，and you don't take enough exercise.

　　我的意思是你吃得太多，而且運(yùn)動(dòng)得不夠。

　　（10）表示強(qiáng)調(diào)，加強(qiáng)語(yǔ)氣。用and 連接兩個(gè)相同的動(dòng)詞表示動(dòng)作的反復(fù)；用and連接兩個(gè)相同的副詞，表示動(dòng)作的延續(xù)；用and連接同一個(gè)形容詞或副詞的比較級(jí)，表示程度的逐步加深。

　　The baby laughed and laughed.

　　這個(gè)嬰兒笑個(gè)不停。

　　She looked at me and cried harder and harder.

　　她看著我，哭得越來(lái)越厲害。

　　（11）and有時(shí)連接兩個(gè)反義詞。and連接的兩個(gè)反義詞在句中作狀語(yǔ)或后置定語(yǔ)，這兩個(gè)詞的次序不得顛倒。
